We will continue to revise the sounds we know and introduce new sounds as we work through Level 5.

Below is our Floppy's Phonics Alphabetic code which we use to help our Reading and Spelling.

Common Exception Words

Common Exception Words are the words that we should be able to read and spell by the end of the year.

We will learn and practice these in school throughout the year.

If you would like to practice at home, below are the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words. (See File below to download)

Look out for spelling patterns, or think of fun ways to remember them.

Writing

In Year 2  we use lots of wonderful texts to engage the children in their writing.

We use the FANTASTICS to help us to gather, share and use powerful vocabulary in our writing.

When writing in Year 2 we want the children to:

- develop positive attitudes towards and stamina for writing by writing for a variety of different purposes.

- consider what they are going to write before beginning by planning or saying out loud what they are going to write about, writing down ideas and/or key words, including new vocabulary and encapsulating what they want to say, sentence by sentence

- make simple additions, revisions and corrections to their own writing by evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils, re-reading to check that their writing makes sense and that verbs to indicate time are used correctly and consistently, including verbs in the continuous form, proof-reading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

- read aloud what they have written with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear

Handwriting

We will continue to practise our pre cursive handwriting before moving on to joining our letters together. We will foucs on the size, orientation and spacing between letters and words.

Below you will find a copy of our letter formation sheet for you to see or if you would like to practise more at home.
