Catholic Life at St Julie Catholic Primary School

At St Julie Catholic Primary School, our faith is at the heart of everything we do. We are a welcoming Catholic community where Christ is truly at the centre of our daily lives, guiding our words, our actions and the way we care for one another.

Our Mission Statement is lived out each day as we journey together in the footsteps of Jesus. Through prayer, worship, learning and service, we encourage every member of our school family to grow in faith and share God’s love with others.

Our Gospel values and school values shape who we are. They inspire us to show kindness, compassion, forgiveness and respect, creating a community where everyone is valued, celebrated and supported.

We believe that faith is something we live, not just something we learn about. Our pupils have many opportunities to put their faith into action through prayer, charitable work and service to others. Our action groups help children develop leadership skills while making a positive difference within our school, parish and wider community.

Our Mini Vinnies are an important part of our Catholic Life. They work passionately to support those in need, partnering with charities including Mary’s Meals, The Angel Starfish Project,St Helens Cornerstone Food Bank, Willowbrook Hospice, the SVP and CAFOD. Through their work, our children learn the importance of compassion, generosity and standing alongside those who need our support.

We are proud to have achieved CAFOD’s Live Simply Award, recognising our commitment to caring for creation and responding to the call to be responsible stewards of our common home. Across our school community, we make a difference through initiatives such as recycling uniform, gardening club, and class and family pledges to live more simply and sustainably.

At St Julie Catholic Primary School, we continue to grow as a faith-filled community, inspired by the words and actions of Jesus. Together, we strive to love, serve and care for one another and for the world around us.

Prayer, Worship and Sacramental Life

Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are at the heart of life at St Julie Catholic Primary School. As a community of faith, we celebrate the Church’s liturgical year through whole-school worship, class prayer, liturgical celebrations and opportunities to come together as God's family.

Throughout the year, our children participate in a variety of special celebrations, including our Advent Parish Service, Christmas celebrations, Lenten reflections, Easter Passion Service and the annual May Procession in honour of Mary. We also mark the feast days of saints and other significant events in the Church’s calendar, helping pupils to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith.

Parish Partnership

Our strong partnership with the parish plays an important role in nurturing the faith of our children. We regularly attend parish Masses and enjoy opportunities to worship alongside parishioners, helping our pupils recognise that they are part of a wider Catholic community.

Sacramental Preparation

Sacramental preparation is a special part of our children's faith journey. Through prayer, reflection and learning, pupils are supported as they prepare to receive the Sacraments. Children celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation through First Confession in December and continue their preparation for First Holy Communion, which is celebrated in May in partnership with families and the parish.

Prayer at Home

Prayer is not only encouraged in school but also within the family home. To strengthen the partnership between home, school and parish, children regularly take part in prayer activities with their families.

Our Prayer Bear Bags are shared with children throughout the year and provide a special opportunity for families to pray together at home. Each bag contains a prayer cloth, teddy bear, candle, cross and prayer book to help create a simple prayer space. Families are invited to spend time talking to God, sharing prayers of thanksgiving and asking for His guidance and support.

The Prayer Bear Bags help children to understand that prayer is an important part of everyday life and encourage them to develop a deeper personal relationship with God within the loving environment of their family.

Celebrating 60 Years of St Julie's

This year, St Julie Catholic Primary School proudly celebrated the 60th anniversary of its opening. Our celebrations began with a special parish Mass celebrated by Father Henry, where we gave thanks for sixty years of faith, learning and service to the community. Former pupils, past and present staff, governors, parishioners and friends of the school joined together to mark this important milestone.

Visitors enjoyed viewing displays of photographs and memorabilia from across the decades, sharing treasured memories and stories of school life. Our current pupils were fascinated to learn about what St Julie's was like in the past and enthusiastically asked questions about how school has changed over the years. The celebrations continued with party food and a programme of sixty fun games and activities, allowing the children to create their own special memories as part of the school's continuing journey.

To celebrate our school is to celebrate six decades of God's blessings, the dedication of those who have served the school, and the bright future that lies ahead for our St Julie's family.
